Working Parties
The Healthy School Working Party has been meeting since the Spring Term 2006 and is made up of enthusiastic parents who meet with the Headteacher regularly. The working party promotes ‘health’ in the broadest sense through the school. we are proud that in 2009 the School gained 'healthy school status' but the working party has always been keen to ensure that its work is ‘driven’ by the need of our school and the context we are in and not just ticking boxes.
The Working Party started its work by consulting the school community on 'health in school' - this involved pupils, parents and staff taking part in a 'healthy conversation'.
Children took part in a competition to design a ‘healthy school’ logo that would demonstrate the school’s commitment to being healthy (see above).
The four areas that the Healthy School Working Party has focussed on are:
-
Perosnal, Social and Health Education
-
Emotional Health and Wellbeing
-
Physical Activity
-
Healthy Eating
The working party produces regular newsletters that update the school community on health matters and news items, click on the links below to see newsletters:
The working party has organised specific enrichment days through the school that have been a great success.
During World of Food Day children learned about, making and tasting food from around the world through workshops led by parents - this included France, USA, Pakistan, Ukraine, Libya, Spain, Ghana and Netherlands.
Bags of Life Day was a special day planned to raise awareness the environment and in particular the issue of plastic bags and our approaches to reducing, reusing and recycling. All families were given a special Milverton Bag of Life and were asked to sign a pledge to demonstrate their commitment to doing more for the environment.

Our Travel Plan is focussed on increasing the numbers of children travelling to school in an environmentally sustainable way. In October 2008 we held our biggest Walk to School event yet - a community event involving Action 21, Kerbsafe, the Police and Warwickshire County Council. The children took part in a wide variety of workshops focussing on safe, sustainable travel.
In the Summer Term 2009 the Healthy School Working Party organised 'Celebrate Milverton'. This was an evening event celebrating all the amazing projects and initiatives that have been going on at our school, including our Creative Partnerships, Aspects of Learning, VCOP, our links with Future Academy and our sports achievements. We invited community partners to hold 'maket stalls' as well as staff members. The event was very well attended and parents and children were entertained with line dancing, fencing demonstrations, disco dancing and singing from the choir!
