PTA

Milverton Primary School has a very active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) comprising of parents and staff from the school who meet twice per term to discuss and arrange social, educational and sporting activities.  We are fortunate that we have a very dedicated team focused on raising funds for the school, which we are able to achieve thanks to the ongoing support of the parents, staff and pupils alike.

The chosen activities are arranged primarily to raise money to be used for the benefit of the children of Milverton, but to also build links between the school, staff and parents/carers.

Here, you will be able to keep up-to-date with what we have achieved, how we are raising funds for the school and more importantly, how we are spending the money.  On this site you will find minutes from previous meetings, contact details and dates for forthcoming meetings as well as information on key events in our fund raising calendar.

If you have any information, suggestions or comments that you think will be useful, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Our Approach
Whilst there is a formal committee, we do have a ‘collaborative approach’ within the committee itself with the introduction of coordinators taking ownership of specific events.  For example, one person will be in charge of organising the cake sales throughout the year; another person will be in charge of organising the Quiz Night.  We feel that this will share out the demands of the PTA and get more people involved.  If you would like to take ‘ownership’ of an event then please let Wendy Jordan know (details at the end).  Support with communication and how it has been done previously will be given.

In addition, we also welcome ad-hoc projects from those parents unable to commit to a full-time PTA role.

To summarise our overall approach itself; the committee discusses a wish list of what the school requires and then working with staff and parents prioritise items for fundraising. 

We communicate on a regular basis with all parents via the weekly Headteacher newsletter, coupled with promoting forthcoming events with posters and flyers.  We welcome new ideas and inputs from staff, parents, carers and the pupils themselves.
 

Fundraising – a new initiative – company matched giving

With more and more parents having less time, Milverton PTA is looking at other ways to raise funds.  As well as fundraising in the traditional way, last year, we introduced Company Matched Giving.

Matched Giving is a simple way of increasing the amount of money we have raised.  Matched Giving is a corporate arrangement where companies pledge to donate to an organisation a sum relating to the amount their employees, donates to / or raises for the organisation.  For example, a parent, who works for a company that supports Matched Giving, volunteers to work on the refreshments stall at the Summer Fair.  The profit made by the stall is £100.  The parent’s employer will then match this amount with a further £100 (assuming they offer a 100% match).   Alternatively, a parent may opt to make a donation to the PTA, which again could be matched by their organisation.

Events held and confirmed for 2009/10 are listed below.  We also plan to hold a Sponsored Event during the year as well as others.  Keep watching the website for further details .  Unless indicated, all events are held at the school.
