FAQs

What do children wear to school?
There is no school uniform. Guidance on what the children should wear to school is given in our School Dress and Personal Property Code.

Do the children have homework?
We have a Homework Policy which supports and extends children’s work as they progress through the school. Homework is set according to the age of the child. All children have a homework book and weekly homework tasks are set on a Thursday and returned on a Tuesday. Children have reading books and weekly spellings to learn.

What do children do for lunch?
All children have lunch between 12 noon and 1.15pm which is eaten in the Dining Hall. Children either have a hot dinner prepared by County Caterers on the school site or bring a packed lunch to school. Children vary what they have through the week, but we ask that they follow a set pattern each week. Dinner money for the week should be sent into school in a clearly marked envelope on Monday morning.

What should I do if my child is absent from school?
If your child is absent from school for any reason please phone the school before 9am to let us know – messages can be left on the answer phone before 8.30am.

How do I contact my child’s teacher?
Every child should have a home/school communication book in which you and the teacher can write messages. We do try and operate an open door policy, but do ask that unless in emergencies that if you need to talk directly with your child’s teacher you try and do so at the end of the school day.

Are the children tested?
Children undertake statutory assessments at the end of Year 2 and 6. Children in Years 3, 4 and 5 undertake similar non statutory assessments in the summer term. Other assessments are ongoing throughout the year and continuously inform teachers’ future planning.

Does the school have out of school childcare?
Before and after school childcare is available at POSH Club which is part of Puddleducks Nursery that leases the East Hall building on the school site. Please telephone 422112 for further details.

Are dogs allowed on the school site?

Yes, but in a restricted area. Parents bringing dogs onto the site must ensure that they are kept on a lead. When bringing dogs onto the school site access must be by the gate entrance off Greatheed Road along the side of the main hall. Dogs are only allowed up to the blue line marked across the lane. Dogs should not be tied up and left by their owners.

Are children allowed to bring snacks into school?

Children in the infant classes are given a fruit snack daily as part of the government fruit scheme. Junior children can bring a healthy snack into school to eat during playtime or are able to purchase a snack from the school snack bar open during morning break time.

Are children allowed to bring toys into school?

Children are allowed to bring a favourite toy into school to play with at breaktimes, providing it is not valuable and is appropriate for use on the playground. Electronic games and devices are not allowed. The school cannot accept any responsibility for damage that might be caused. Toys must be stored in bags/lockers/trays during lesson times.
