Dear Parents,                                                            Bags of Life Day

On Friday 22nd February, the Healthy Schools Working Party has organised a special day in school focussing on environmental issues and in particular the issue of plastic bags - 'Bags of Life Day'. During the day the children will be undertaking various activities in their classes.

In supporting the day we would like as many children as possible to come to school by bicycle - we hope to have some bike technicians from Action 21 at school doing safety checks on the bikes.

If your child brings a packed lunch to school please try and send in a 'writing free' lunch which has no plastic packaging that has to be thrown away and cannot be recycled.

At the end of the day each family will be given a special gift funded by the PTA to help raise awareness of this important issue!
Competition
Milverton boys and girls! We need you to create a logo for our school travel plan. The winning logo will be adopted as the symbol for all the things we are doing to make travel to school
safer
healthier
greener
for everyone at Milverton. So your logo can show some of your best ideas about safe, healthy, environmentally friendly ways to get into school and home again.

Get your logo down on an A4 sheet of paper, and into the school office by Tuesday 19th February (that's the Tuesday after half-term, so plenty of time to come up with something great). Colour or black and white are both fine, but make sure your name is on the sheet so we know who has drawn the winning logo.

PTA Fish and Chip Quiz
A reminder that the PTA Fish and Chip Quiz Night is taking place in the school hall tonight - 7.45 for 8.00pm start.

Dear Parents,

Bags of Life Day
Please find accompanying this letter your special Milverton Primary School 'Bag of Life' along with a letter from the Healthy School Working Party and a special pledge designed by members of the School Council. We would like all school families to support our work in school today by signing the pledge and returning it to school - if everyone is prepared to try and reduce the amount of plastic bags in their households together we can make a difference!! Please send in your signed pledge so they can be displayed in school.

We are really excited about finding out about what our special 'Bags Of Life' have been used for and where they have been. Please do take photos of your bag in use and send them into school so they can also be displayed in school.

In supporting our work in school, if you would like to order more 'Bags of Life' for yourselves, friends and family members then please do complete the slip on the accompanying letter and return it to school by 7th March.

A big thank you to the Healthy School Working Party, the staff at school and the volunteers from Action 21 for making the day a great success and raising awareness of the issue of plastic bags.

Milverton Money Challenge
This term our numeracy targets through the school are focussing on 'Money' and on Friday 14th March we are planning a special Milverton Money Challenge Day. To support this and our focus on ensuring children are able to understand the concept of 'economic well-being' (one of the 5 outcomes of the Government's Every Child Matters Paper 2003) we are planning a challenge between now and 14th March. Each class will be saving loose change (1p to 20p coins) in a special container. The children will then make decisions jointly about what they would like to spend their saved money on - something to support the fun learning in their class. We would like every child to be included, but donations should be made with parents' knowledge!

Infant Play Equipment
You may have already noticed the wonderful new train that has been installed in the Infant playground for the children to play on during their playtimes. A big thank you to the PTA who have funded the equipment and to Mr Langridge for organising its installation.

Calling all Parents!
This year I am very pleased to write that we are taking part in Warwickshire Artsweek which is running from 5 - 20th July. For more information see the following website:
. The school will be putting on an exhibition of work open to the public during the week beginning Monday 7th July.

We are planning an Arts Week in school the week beginning Monday 9th June, during which the children will be undertaking different activities on our chosen theme of 'through the window'. This is a chance for parents to be directly involved in the work of the school - if you have a particular profession/skill/hobby that could be used to enhance the children's learning during this week, or you just fancy coming along and joining in the fun then please complete the slip below and return it to school and/or talk to your child's class teacher or Mrs Gane who is co-ordinating the event. It would be great to make this a real community event - so if you have the time please do try and get involved!

Please remember all volunteers are subject to a CRB check - if you haven't had a CRB check in the last year please speak to Mrs Hart.

School Dinner Money
A reminder that in all cases dinner money should be paid in advance of children having dinners. This means:

If you pay weekly then dinner money should be sent into school on a Monday morning
If you pay half termly or termly dinner money should be paid on the first Monday of the term or half term.
We currently have a debt of £470 for dinners that have been taken and have not been paid for - this means far too much valuable office administration time is being spent chasing outstanding debts.
Please note that dinners cost £1.60 per day. The cost for each half term is £56 and for the whole term is £112.
